What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a ceramic cap that engulfs a decayed or heavily damaged tooth. The crown is used to restore function to your smile and improve the overall aesthetic of your teeth. Crowns restore a tooth’s shape, size, color, and vitality.

Once installed, dental crowns cover the visible surface of the tooth acting a new stronger, more durable outer layer. Lake Country Dental uses state-of-the-art CEREC® technology to aid in designing, constructing, and installing the natural looking restoration. The revolutionary CEREC® system allows Dr. Snider to conveniently and quickly create dental crowns that look natural and blend in flawlessly with your existing teeth. Using CEREC® we can create and install an all-ceramic dental crown in your smile in a single visit to our Fort Worth dental facility.

What to Expect During Your Visit

After consulting with Dr. Snider that dental crowns are needed to restore your smile, he will take digital scans of your mouth, placing an emphasis on capturing of details of the damaged tooth. Those images are then synchronized to a computer which searched a database of thousands of teeth. The computer determines how the restoration should appear and then generates a 3D image of the new tooth.

Dr. Snider makes minor adjustments on the image, if needed. Within 15 minutes the CEREC® system produces the all-ceramic dental crown that is needed to complete your enhancement.

Our dental team removes the superficial damage that is on your existing tooth, rounding the portion that is left and then bonding it to a newly created dental crown. The restoration is cemented into place for additional support and then polished to blend its appearance.

Ideal Candidates

Dental crowns and bridges could work well for your smile if you have teeth that are broken, worn down, heavily decayed, missing, or discolored. Our Fort Worth dental crown specialists also offer the restorative service to patients who have too short or extremely long teeth.

It is important to consult with Dr. Snider to discuss your dental options before undergoing treatment. Although dental crowns and dental bridges restore function to many of our patient’s smiles, the services are not optimal for everyone.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges “bridge” the gap created by missing teeth. Using an assortment of materials including porcelain, gold alloys, and tooth colored acrylics, our dental team can create a seamless smile that looks perfectly natural.

A dental bridge is designed to restore function to your mouth and blend in flawlessly with existing teeth. This type of restoration is supported by dental crowns that are placed on either side of the bridge.

Dental bridges are bonded directly to the crowns, making them a “fixed” solution to missing teeth. While dental crowns only take one visit to our office in Fort Worth to complete, two visits are usually needed to design dental bridges and make adjustments for fit and comfort.
